Great news! Backyard Butterfly Garden has officially been published. I've got your preorders ordered and will ship them out as soon as I possibly can. I've assembled your shipments so that when the books arrive, I'll be able to add your book(s), slap on your shipping label and send it on its way.

Backyard Butterfly Book Update!

Book editing is officially complete!
Getting this book to print has taken much longer than I would have ever thought. There have been a few unforeseen delays. Most of them have been dealing with the technicalities of the page layouts. Our publisher wanted larger margins (the space between the edge of the page and the text) than we had originally set up. This margin issue ended up costing us many, many weeks of back and forth with our editor.
Much time was lost because instead of telling us the issue and sending our file back (so that we could adjust it ourselves), our editor tried fixing it for us. This caused so many different layout issues and we spent many weeks making lists of every issue on each page and asking them to rectify, eventually getting the files back just to see still more layout problems, some old and others new.
We finally asked why all of these layout issues were popping up in the first place and were told of the margin spacing rule! Here we asked for the book file back so that we could adjust/correct each page in a way that was cohesive and worked with the illustrations, and they agreed. My amazing illustrator reworked the layout for all of the text and illustrations on each page so as to comply with these larger margins and sent it back, ready to go, in just 2 days.
I am frustrated at all of the wasted time, but relieved to be on the other side of this problem. Now I can finally, and happily, announce that we have officially finished editing and are waiting for our physical proof copy. These delays are so stressful to me; I just want all of you to get your Kickstarter rewards as soon as possible. I'm really proud of this little book and cannot wait for you to receive your copies!
Again, thank you so much for your patience. Our goal is to deliver the best finished product that we can. As with anything, having high and exacting standards can cause a job to take longer if it is to be done right.

Backyard Butterfly Garden book update!

Hello Backyard Butterfly Backers,
Quick update on our progress. Games have arrived and orders not involving books have all been shipped.
We've spent the winter working diligently to finish our companion book, 'Backyard Butterfly Garden: A Kids Guide to Monarch Waystations' and I'm so happy to report that it is 99.9% finished! We're just one tiny edit away from sending it off to our publisher. I know this has taken longer than expected, but it will be worth it in the long run. I cannot wait for you to get your copies!
We've put so much effort into making sure each page is cute and fun. It's both a picture book that can be skimmed through for a bedtime story, or read cover to cover for in-depth knowledge answering all the who, what, where, when, and whys about monarchs and monarch waystations.
My favorite addition are the conversing monarchs in the foreground of each page. You can see an example of them on the back cover of the book jacket. Sometimes they're informative, but mostly they're just piping up with silly or cute little comments.
I'll post an update with a release date as soon as we can pin that down.

Backyard Butterfly update: Customs delay

Hello Backyard Butterfly Backers,
Our shipment of games is in Detroit. They were scheduled to be delivered to me on Dec, 12th, but that has now been canceled because US Customs is holding them for an inspection.
I have no idea how long this delay will take, I'm guessing that by the time they arrive my very small window of delivering them before Christmas will have passed.
I'm so sorry for anyone who was planning on giving them as a Christmas gift! We were all prepped and ready to package and ship board games out to you on the same day they were unloaded off the truck but now we will have to wait. I will update you as soon as can once I hear they have cleared.
In other news, and as promised in my last update, here is a peek at the enamel pins on their pin board. I love them so much!
Just yesterday the US Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed the Endangered Species Act Protection for the Monarch Butterfly. We've been waiting to hear their decision and have expected this outcome.
It is so important to spread the word about helping our monarchs. I really hope that this game and it's companion book will inspire our youngest generation to learn all about native gardening.
